Attraction, Discernment, and Choice
Attraction can be powerful, but it is not an infallible guide. People are often drawn to what is familiar, exciting, or emotionally charged, even when it is unstable. Discernment helps a person test attraction against character, values, timing, and patterns.
Healthy romantic choice asks better questions. How does this person handle frustration? Are words and actions aligned? Is there generosity without manipulation? Is there accountability? Are there red flags being romanticized away?
Discernment does not kill romance. It protects it from becoming needlessly tragic.
Healthy relationships are not accidental chemistry preserved by luck. They are built through repeated choices about honesty, timing, attentiveness, boundaries, and the willingness to repair. This is why relationship growth can feel demanding yet deeply rewarding. Every improvement in relational character tends to strengthen not only romance or friendship, but the entire emotional fabric of life.
